I used to think parenting would be easy.
Before becoming a mom, I had all sort of ideas about the ways I would parent. Even as a fierce feminist I couldn’t escape the image of the “good” mother who gracefully took care of everything and raised compliant and sweet children. Sure, I added my own rebellious twist to this image, but it was unrealistic and unattainable anyways. |
While raising babies I worked hard to achieve that ideal and I was more or less staying afloat, but when my first child became a toddler with his own opinions, the power struggles began and I stated burning out. My children were their own people: strong-willed, adventurous, out-of-the-box thinkers. Great for the world, hard to convince to put clothes on.
You're not alone in your struggle.
If you're here, chances are, parenting hasn't been easy.
For many years, parenting was really hard for me. I was far away from my family, my culture, my friends and all my support system. I was carrying the wounds of my own childhood and had no tools for doing things differently. I felt so much shame about not enjoying my children more, about not being able to effortlessly be the perfect mom.
I took parenting courses, followed the experts, read the books.
Yet, putting concepts into practice was very hard and I felt like a failure.
But I didn’t give up. I couldn’t give up because my children needed me.
I realized that first, I needed safety.
I became a single mom and built that safety for myself and for my children. Along the way, I found and grew my community and support network of other loving radical parents, queers, and children advocates.
I leaned deeply into my own healing.
I worked hard at connection.
I learned about neurodiversity and neurodivergence.
I started understanding all the systems of oppression that kept mothers, non-binary parents and children on a perpetual state of disadvantage.
Things started coming together and little by little, I started reclaiming the joy of parenting through play, empathy, self-compassion and radical acceptance.
I believe parenting is a unique opportunity to heal ourselves, dismantle systems of oppression and change the world.
After years or working on my own family’s healing, I got the beautiful opportunity of training with Sarah Rosensweet as a Re-Imagine Peaceful Parenting Coach.
As a parenting coach, I’m honored to support intentional families in the process of re-parenting, connecting deeply with their children and gaining the tools to successfully parent from a model of shared power instead of “power-over” children.
When we treat children with empathy and respect and teach them tools for collaborative problem solving, when we model self-regulation and repair after we make mistakes, we are dismantling systems of oppression from our own homes and creating a world better equipped for peace, accountability and justice.

This is deep work, we will stumble, but together, we can bring joy and connection to our families while we change the world.
